Eddie Van Halen for Eggheads!
Tuesday, October 16, 2007 | Trackback
It seems that guitar playing got incredibly advanced during the eighties and early nineties (think Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai etc) however this next video proves that there's always somewhere else to go. To be honest I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the whole "technique" versus "feel" argument as this is impressive yet dull at the same time and it proves that you really have to be something special to meld the two into something that people will want to listen to time and again.
I quite like the melody about two minutes into this video and its more impressive that this is performed on an acoustic guitar (if you can call it that!) but I'll let you make up your own mind.
This fantastic piece by Andy McKee however is a perfect blend of advanced acoustic guitar method, rhythm and melody that I find far more moving and certainly inspiring.
Man! I better get practising!
