Phil Collen Guitar Lesson and Videos

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 | Trackback

Phil Collen has been an integral part of Def Leppard since 1981 when he was asked to replace the Pete Willis. His highly technical guitar style fitted in perfectly with the bands highly polished studio sound and has produced some stunning guitar work on classic Def Leppard albums such as Pyromania, Hysteria, Adrenalize and X (one of my personal favourites).

Slash Online Guitar Lessons

Sunday, July 27, 2008 | Trackback

I've been listening to a lot of Guns n' Roses recently and particularly Appetite for Destruction. I've always loved the album but recently I've really come to appreciate Slash's guitar playing. He's probably a lot more technically gifted than most people think and he's got a great combination tone and plenty of feel to his classic blues rock technique. He's also a great guy and always worth listening to.

I've included some online guitar lessons from Slash himself courtesy of Guitar World which give a great insight into his unique style of guitar playing.

Free acoustic guitar lesson about Arpeggios

Thursday, November 29, 2007 | Trackback

I found a really great acoustic guitar video lesson today on arpeggios. This video is part of the launch for Dan Denley's new Acoustic Guitar Secrets course which is due out on December 12, 2007. Dan basically introduces arpeggios and then puts together a really nice arpeggiated chord progression that's both melodic and atmospheric.

I always get asked what arpeggios are so I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to let you know about this video. You can see the full video below.

Dan will be releasing several more videos on acoustic guitar so its well worth you joining the email list to get the rest even if you aren't interested in the Acoustic Guitar Secrets course. Dan's been around for a while now and has produced several guitar courses including Amazing Guitar Secrets and Lead Guitar Secrets. I've been on his email list for ages and have never been spammed so I have no problems recommending him.

Here's the link again and I'll get a review of Acoustic Guitar Secrets on the website as soon as I receive the course.

Increased competition in online guitar teaching means students win big

Monday, October 08, 2007 | Trackback

The online guitar tutorials market seems to be getting very competitive these days and we have been kept busy recently writing reviews of some really great courses. This of course means better deals for those learning guitar and it really is a buyers market out there. One of the products we have reviewed recently is , “50 Easy Songs To Play On The Guitar” and it is a great example of how publishers are giving away more and more free guitar lessons. Of course by doing this they are hoping you'll buy the full course but it just goes to show that if you want to learn the guitar then the internet is the place to look even if your budget is a big fat zero.

Elmore music's range of online guitar instruction products represent an excellent choice for the beginner and intermediate guitarist but these days you really are spoilt for choice as there are several great courses available. Based on our research the best selling guitar courses online include;

Now some are more expensive than others and its worth noting that Learn and Master the Guitar by Steve Krenz is an 8 DVD set rather than an online guitar course (which tends to justify the cost) but all are professionally presented and well taught. Best of all more and more are giving away free lessons which not only means you get a great deal but you get a chance to sample the quality and teaching style of each product before you buy.

Several of these publishers also have new courses in the pipeline and we are looking forward to reviewing them in the near future. In the meantime check out the sites for yourself and most importantly enjoy playing the guitar!

Free Blues Guitar Lessons

Thursday, August 23, 2007 | Trackback

FreeGuitarVideos.com is run by by Peter Vogl, Jody Worrell, Michael Doke and Billy Wilkie, all of which have fine CV's and plenty of experience in teaching guitar. The site features plenty of free videos on blues guitar as well as many video lessons on slide, jazz, country, acoustic and rock guitar. The site is well laid out and is a great example of how to offer good value content to visitors in conjunction with reasonably priced premium lessons. The premium lessons are well priced at $4.99 per lesson and usually range 15 - 20 mins whereas the free lessons are shorter at 5 - 10 mins.

I think this site will have a lot of regular visitors as a result of what they have to offer and here are some sample lessons from the site to get you started.

Learn Coldplay's "The Scientist" on guitar

Friday, June 15, 2007 | Trackback

There's not many songs over the last few years that really give me goosebumps and I'm always finding myself going back to the sixties, seventies and eighties to get my fix for a classic song. But "The Scientist" by Coldplay is a modern classic that gets me every time and a great one to impress the girls (or guys) with.

Free guitar lessons

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 | Trackback

Every once and a while whilst digging through the masses of guitar websites out there in the nether, we come across a gem of a site and FreeLicks.net is one of them. Its free to access and has lots of video clips and guitar tabs for many of the most popular rock riffs and solos.

Whilst not as polished as some of the online guitar courses we feature on the site (what do you expect its free!) it has plenty for the intermediate guitarist that wants to learn some popular blues/rock riffs and solos. Kristopher Dahl, the swedish guitar instructor certainly has the chops and has a great sense of humour. Just check out the following clip on youtube. I laughed my ass off!
