HIM Guitar Tabs and Videos

Saturday, January 17, 2009 | Trackback

HIM are probably one of my favourite bands at the moment. Their well crafted blend of gothic rock and pop sensibility have ensured they have crafted some truly memorable hits since their inception in 1991. The guitar playing of Mikko Lindström is superb and despite this heavy style of playing you'd be surprised to know that he has a particular fondness of Jimi Hendrix as well as Iggy Pop. He also idolizes Steve Vai, John Lee Hooker, and Elvis Presley.

In the studio, Mikko Lindström or Linde as he is more commonly known uses primarily Gibson SGs, and uses them exclusively live. For the recording of Venus Doom, Linde also used baritone guitars by ESP and Danelectro, and a Fender Telecaster for some solos. He has also used Gibson Les Pauls, Fender Stratocasters, and a Gretsch Chet Atkins model for his clean sounds.

You can find out more about this incredible band on their website. www.heartagram.com

Doin' What The Devil Says To Do Richie Kotzen Guitar Lesson

Wednesday, August 27, 2008 | Trackback

Richie Kotzen is an incredible guitarist and has played with both Mr Big and Poison. He has however truly excelled in his solo career where his singing and song writing talents have almost eclipsed his guitar playing ability.

"Doin' What The Devil Says To Do" is one of the stand out tracks from his album "Into The Black" and the video below provides a great lesson on how to play the intro chord sequence.

Intro Chord Sequence

Em11 Em9 Aadd9 Asus4(9) G D/F# Aadd9 (Played with a dirty clean sound and a phaser)

Doin' What The Devil Says To Do By Richie Kotzen

Check out the master himself. If you have enjoyed this track then I highly recommend the "Live in San Paulo" and "Into The Black" albums by Richie Kotzen.

Joe Bonamassa Guitar Tabs

Monday, August 25, 2008 | Trackback

Blues-rock guitar virtuoso, vocalist and songwriter Joe Bonamassa is widely renowned for his insanely fluid phrasing and post-modern fusion of electric British blues, traditional Delta blues and rock 'n roll chops.

His powerful blues/rock style reminds of Gary Moore at the height of his blues period and his song writing is even better.

Dragon Force Guitar Tabs

Tuesday, November 27, 2007 | Trackback

I posted some Andy McKee guitar tabs on the website a while ago and since then its been one of the most popular entries on the blog. So we are going to feature more artists in the future and I couldn't resist starting with a band that have created a bit of a storm on Guitar Hero recently. They are of course Dragon Force, a power metal group that formed in 1999 in London England and have against the odds gained huge popularity.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that we had suddenly gone back to the eighties but the combination of sheer speed and melody is something quite spectacular and its no wonder they are so popular right now. Metals back alright! The stand out highlight is "Through the fire and flames" which you can see below.

Operation Ground and Pound is equally impressive.

Dragon Force Video Guitar Lessons

Herman Li and Sam Totman have really embraced their roles as guitar heroes and have posted several instructional videos on youtube. The lesson below is on how to play "Through The Fire and Flames".

This clip is from Young Guitar DVD and features Herman Li and Sam Totman in superb form during some excellent demonstrations.

Another Guitar Lesson this time featuring Herman Li.
