So you want to record some tunes eh? Where do I start I hear you ask. Well you have lots of options and here are some examples of what software recording solutions are available.

Audacity
Its a free download and maybe a good place to start if you have a limited budget. You also have options to download plugins and mp3 export capabilities. Although free to download you'll need an input device such as Line 6's POD or Guitarport.

Guitar Tracks Pro
Powerful home editing studio from Cakewalk that actually comes with a 32-track digital recorder and virtual mixing console; IK Multimedia's Amplitube LE a special edition of the leading guitar amp plug-in . The price is attractive aswell at $99 (£49)

Riffworks
Ideal solution for guitarists and incredibly easy to use based on this rather funny Riffworks demonstration video. You will need an interface device of some kind in order to use this but Line 6's POD or Guitarport should do the trick. Prices of RiffWorks Line 6 Edition with a GuitarPort start from $265.99 (£149).

Adobe Audition
Formerly known as Cool Edit Pro. This solution allows you to record, mix, edit, and master digital audio files with powerful tools that bring flexibility and control to your desktop studio. You can easily create music, produce radio spots, and restore imperfect recordings. You'll get professional results but comes in at $349 (£270) so its not the cheapest solution.
